How To Care For Natural Hair This Harmattan Season

This is an article on how to take care of your natural hair this Harmattan Season.
Many of us from non-African countries will probably be at sea for the need of care for your natural hair in Harmattan... What on Earth is Harmattan anyways?

What Harmattan is, African Winter

Harmattan Season is the coldest time of the year in Africa. We don't have Winters in West Africa, so you think we would worry less about dry and breaking natural hair? I think not. Harmattan leaves our skin white and our natural hair dry in no time.
Since this is perhaps, the season of breakage and painful combing, our natural hair needs protection against Harmattan.

How it relates to our natural hair, breakage drama

The Harmattan Season might give your vulnerable natural hair a breakage spree, to avoid that, we need intensive care for the hair. I'm not talking long hours of treatments, because I see you rolling your eyes. Just a little care for your natural hair this Harmattan will make the difference.

*Moisturize and Oil, the key!

The easiest way to fight dryness in your natural hair this Harmattan Season is to moisturize. Moisturizing keeps your hair soft, firm and healthy even after Harmattan tries to streak away moisturize. Don't be shy, use Shea butter! You can melt over a fire to keep it in lotion and thoroughly moisturize. Let it sink into your scalp, because that's where the magic happens, it's responsible for natural hair growth and breakage. It will keep your natural hair glowing, healthy and Protected.

*Protective Hairstyling, easy as pie

My favorite care for natural hair this Harmattan Season is protective Hairstyling. It keeps your hair moisturized, so you don't have to keep oiling your hair everyday. For your own sake, I would do without leaving my natural hair unprotected this season. You don't have to do any fancy style, just your everyday weaving works as much, just don't leave it hanging!

*Satin Scarf Overnight, never stays on?

Satin scarfs are scarfs which is an essential part of natural hair care. They keep your hair from shrinkage and loss of moisturize. If you are afraid of shrinkage and you need to avoid it, get yourself satin scarfs.

*Hair Combing, the world war 3

The primary reason for hair loss this Harmattan is war-like combing. While growing up, natural hair wasn't adorned like this, so there was no DIYs, no Special Hair creams or styling, nothing! My hair was a stubborn one and you need to come prepared in the combing department. My mother will often taunt the hair, trying to get it smooth, no! Stop combing your hair like a maniac, it's your hair not a mannequin. I'm going to show you guys how to comb your natural hair in a vlog post, but now:
* just gently comb from root and gently hold the base.
*After combing through your roots, hold the midsection of your hair and comb the base.

*Eat Food Rich in Protein and Vegetables

Your natural hair's protection in Harmattan is also determined by your food consumption. Sometimes your hair protection ought to come from within the body. Like my cousin tells me, if you don't eat good food, it will show in all parts of your body.
